View of the dam lake on the way to the embankment

I took my wife and child and said, "Let's go see the plums!" (lol) Well, I told them in advance that it is a dam. But it seemed to be just right for a walk for the children.

The "Saburi Plum Festival" was being held that day, and although the high season for plum blossoms had passed, there were a good number of visitors.

The Saburi Dam is a reservoir built to supply industrial water from the Aichi Irrigation System to the southern Nagoya coastal industrial zone, where major steel manufacturing companies such as Nippon Steel, Daido Steel, and Aichi Steel are located.

The dammed lake itself has a rather peculiar shape, almost like a rias coast.

View of the water intake tower

I tried to take a picture of the plum blossoms with the water intake tower in the background, but it was not a very good picture, so here is a plain one.

It is still cold in March, and the grass on the embankment looks like winter. It will be a beautiful green in the new green season.

In the background are "Saburi Midori to Hana no Fureai Park" and "Ume no Yakata" (Plum Pavilion). Various events are held during the "Saburi Plum Blossom Festival. There were also food stalls. There is a restaurant inside the museum, and I had planned to have lunch there, but the main dish, ume gozen, was sold out, and even though it was a weekday, the place was packed with visitors, so I gave up and had takoyaki at a food stall outside.

As you can see, the top end is a gravel road. No automobile traffic is allowed.

A flood discharge is located on the right bank. It is a fairly narrow conduit.

The flood discharge is quite small. A lot of garbage was trapped.

The Saburi Bridge was built to cut through the middle of a dammed lake. Although it is called an "overpass," it is a prefectural road with one lane on each side.

Flood Discharge and Gate Pier

It is quite small. Since flood control is not the purpose, this is probably about right for the Saburi Dam.

Ah, well! It's "Saburi Pond," so perhaps "dammed lake" is not the correct term. A "dam pond"? ... It doesn't feel right.
