The best way to approach Maruyama Dam is to use Route 418 or Route 21 to get to Yaotsu-cho. However, be careful when using Route 418. Once you pass the dam, it is not a "national highway" but a "bad road. After passing the dam, the pavement on Route 418 is cut off, and it becomes a one-way lane, which is eventually closed to traffic. The road has been abandoned for a long time, and although it seems to be managed accordingly, no significant construction work has been done, and the road closure does not appear to have been lifted at all. The reason for this is probably related to the construction of the Shin-Maruyama Dam. When the new Maruyama Dam is completed, not only the Maruyama Dam but also Route 418 will sink to the bottom of the lake.
View of the embankment from the downstream suspension bridge
It is quite an old dam, but it has a nice taste.

View upstream (dam lake) from the embankment
The surrounding scenery can be called scenic. It makes you wonder how much nature still remains in Japan.

Parking lot | ○ | The surrounding streets are narrow, so if you are not used to narrow streets It may be a bit difficult. However, it seems that the road is being widened due to the construction of the new Maruyama Dam. When the new Maruyama Dam is completed, it may become somewhat of a tourist attraction. And when the new Maruyama Dam is built. This dam will be gone, so if you want to visit it, now is the time. |
