List of dams

Fukui Prefecture Dam

0943-Yambara Dam

The Yamahara Dam is a dedicated power generation dam owned by J-Power Development, and hydroelectric power is generated at the Yugami Power Station downstream. Most of the embankment is a natural overflow emergency flood discharge. If the water were discharged from here, you would be able to feel the beauty of the place. The curve at the tip of the flood discharge is nice! / Gravity Concrete Dam / 23m
Shizuoka Prefecture Dam

1172-Higashi Fuji Dam

Higashi-Fuji Dam is located near Fuji Safari Park, and we actually stopped by after visiting the Safari Park. First of all, the double wire mesh fence prevents visitors from approaching the embankment. Unlike most dams, the entire perimeter of the dam lake is covered by the embankment, which is an asphalt-facing fill dam, an unusual feature of this dam. / Asphalt-facing fill dam / 22m
Dam in Gifu Prefecture

1126-Kawaura Dam/Kaore Dam

In many ways, I'm sorry if I got your hopes up! The Kawaura Dam is located upstream of the Kami-Osu Dam. The dam lake formed by the Kawaura Surabu Dam and this dam together is the upper regulating reservoir (upper pond), and the dam lake formed by the Kami-Osu Dam is the lower regulating reservoir (lower pond), and pumped storage power is generated between them. The effective drop-off is said to be as high as 486 meters.
Dam in Gifu Prefecture

1137-Kawaura Anbu Dam / Gifu Prefecture

In many ways, I'm sorry if I got your hopes up! The Kawaura Kurambe Dam is located upstream of the Kami-Osu Dam. The dam lake formed by the Kawaura Dam and this dam together is the upper regulating reservoir (Upper Pond), and the dam lake formed by the Kami-Osu Dam is the lower regulating reservoir (Lower Pond), and pumped storage power is generated between them. The effective drop-off is said to be as high as 486 meters.
Dam in Okinawa Prefecture

2905-Kinjo Dam

The embankment is made of Ryukyu limestone, a material unique to Okinawa. It is the very wall of Shurijo Castle. It is said that the design of the river was inspired by the nearby Shuri Castle. The river is unusually narrow. The river is unusually narrow, so it has often been plagued by floods when it rains heavily. The river flows through the center of Naha City and Kokusai-dori Street, so you can see how important this dam is. / Gravity concrete dam / 19m
Dam in Okinawa Prefecture

3147-Kinmu Dam (former name: Okkubi Dam)

The 100 million head dam is to be constructed 100 m downstream of the existing Kanabu Dam (non-dam/levee height 12.8 m). There was no sight of the embankment at all. Also, what I failed to capture was that I was heading toward Naha City, but I didn't know that Kinmu Dam was on the left side, and I was only staring at the right side of the bus, so I could only capture this sign.... / Trapezoidal CSG / 39m
Dam in Okinawa Prefecture

3340-Kannawaki Dam

As the name suggests, the Hanna Waki Dam is located on the side of the Hanna Dam. I was actually aiming for the main body of the Hanna Dam, but when I noticed it, I saw the side dam.... I know that no one will be satisfied if I upload such a picture, but I wanted to upload it as a proof that I saw it.... / rockfill dam / 37m
Dam in Okinawa Prefecture

0000-Ishikawa Dam

This dam, like Yamashiro Dam (2893-Yamashiro Dam/Yamashiro Dam), was photographed from the Okinawa Expressway during a tour of Okinawa. I was able to photograph it! However, it seems that the height of the embankment is less than 15m, and it is treated as a weir. So, it was not listed in the dam handbook... / 13.2m
Dam in Okinawa Prefecture

2893-Yamashiro Dam

When I saw the characters for "Yamashiro Dam," I wondered if it was "Yamagusuku. I thought it might be "Yamagusuku," but it was a surprisingly common reading. Sometimes I get confused when I think that Okinawan kanji must be difficult to read, but it is not. I was surprised to learn that the dam was originally built by the U.S. Army. The history of the dam is typical of Okinawa. It was called Tengan Dam until March 1998. / Earth dam / 29.9m
Dam in Mie Prefecture

1332-Anno Dam

The first dam I picked up for my so-called first dam visit of 2010 was this Anno Dam, which I had been planning to visit since the end of the year. I had already researched that it is an irrigation dam for agriculture, so I thought it would not be flashy, but there is no denying that it is a magnificent dam. / Gravity concrete dam / 73m
Hyogo Prefecture Dam

1465-Tachigahata Dam

After visiting Ishii Dam, we headed to Tachigahata Dam. However, I was very impressed that the interesting properties were scattered around before we reached the embankment, and the embankment was not the only thing to see. The stone-lined dam was clearly distinct from the concrete dams we had seen before. I am sure that the people of the Meiji period must have seen a landscape not much different from this picture. / Gravity concrete dam / 33.3m
Hyogo Prefecture Dam

1519-Ishii Dam

This is a Hyogo Prefecture-operated flood control dam that also serves the purpose of recreation and has a gallery inside the embankment. I had done a little preliminary study of the dam beforehand, and was very curious to see a dam with "recreation" as its purpose. However, it seemed to fulfill its purpose, and there were quite a few people walking around. / Gravity concrete dam / 66.2m
Hyogo Prefecture Dam

1507-Tenno dam

This is a perforated dam for flood control only, which does not store water. The orifice gate is actually visible in this photo. The orifice is located below the perforated gate. The orifice is higher than expected, so it does not seem that it does not store water at all. / Gravity Concrete Dam / 33.8m
Fukushima Prefecture Dam

0505-Otori Dam

Located downstream from Okutadami Dam, this is a dedicated power generation dam owned by J-Power Development. It is off-limits to the general public. We arrived at the Otori Dam on the back of a microbus provided by Power Supply Development Co. Again, I had not studied the dam beforehand, so I did not know the details of the dam. Although we could not see the entire embankment due to the power plant building, the solid appearance of the embankment is unique to the gravity-type arch. The white object hanging down from the right bank of the embankment is a hydraulic pipe for power generation. / Gravity arch dam / 83m
Niigata Prefecture Dam

0500-Okutadami Dam

A huge dam located on the border between Niigata and Fukushima prefectures that served as the model for the movie "Whiteout" starring Yuji Oda. Okutadami Dam's total water storage capacity is the second largest in Japan, following Tokuyama Dam. It is also the fifth tallest gravity concrete dam in Japan in terms of both height and effective water storage capacity. It is a very dignified dam. And it is quite tall even when seen like this. / Gravity Concrete Dam / 157m
Nagano Prefecture Dam

1030-Narai Dam

This Nagano Prefecture-owned multi-purpose dam is located near Naraijuku on the Kiso Road in Shinshu. Until now, visitors from Nagoya had to exit at the Nakatsugawa Interchange on the Chuo Expressway and drive north on Route 19 or exit at the Shiojiri Interchange and drive south, but with the opening of the Gonpei Tunnel, it is now possible to exit at the Ina Interchange. / Rockfill dam / 60m
Dam in Aichi Prefecture

1224-Saburi Dam (Souri Dam)

It is a regulating reservoir for Aichi irrigation water located in Chita City, Aichi Prefecture, which is famous for its name, Saburi Ume. The Saburi Dam is a reservoir built to supply industrial water from the Aichi Irrigation Canal to the southern Nagoya coastal industrial area, where major steel manufacturing companies such as Nippon Steel, Daido Steel, and Aichi Steel are located. / Earth dam / 21m
Dam in Gifu Prefecture

1128-atagi dam

The Gifu prefectural dam is located in Shirotori, Gujo City, Gifu Prefecture, a mecca for ski resorts. When I arrived at the embankment, alone and disheartened, to my surprise, water was being discharged from the orifice! There is a parking lot and a park, but I am not sure if it is still possible to take a proper tour. Even if you go there, there is a high possibility that you will not be able to see it. Especially in the middle of winter when it snows heavily, you can't see it at all. / Gravity Concrete Dam / 71.4m
Dam in Gifu Prefecture

1056-Takahashidani Dam

This is a power generation dam owned by Chubu Electric Power Company that stands quietly. The dam looks very old. According to the dam handbook, it was completed in 1919. In Japanese calendar, it was completed in 1919. It is the year of the Treaty of Versailles. It is not suitable for a date, but it looks like it could be used for fishing. It is good for a fishing date. It is also OK if you like old prewar buildings. / Gravity concrete dam / 18.5m
Yamanashi Prefecture Dam

0965-Kakimoto Dam/Kakimoto Dam

Like the Amahata Dam (0969-Amahata Dam), the Kakimoto Dam is an unusual dam owned by Nippon Light Metal, a private company that manufactures aluminum and other materials. It has an aura of being somewhat difficult to enter, but visitors can tour it without worrying. If you take your time and look around, you can enjoy the various flavors of this dam. / Gravity concrete dam / 46.1m
