Soon 2018 will be coming to an end. I was unable to visit the dam much during the second half of this year due to a herniated cervical disc, but let's look back first.

2018/1/3

I visited Otsuro Dam while coming to Wakasa with the intention of snow driving with my family. Unfortunately, there was no snow. I have not visited the dam since the test discharge, but it has been beautifully maintained and I would like to visit again.

We had lunch at Fisherman's Wharf in Obama and visited Kawachi River Dam under construction while eating dessert at a roadside station. I would love to visit here during the test discharge.

After entering Shiga, we also visited the cylindrical diversion of the Azumi River right bank trunk canal.

2018/1/27

I went to Osaka to participate in Yajaku-san's "Talking with Dam Friends" meeting. First, we visited the under-construction Ajigawa Dam.

Next is the Mino River Dam. Osaka is also quite snowy when you get to the northern mountains.

After the meeting with dam friends, I thought it would not be artistic to return directly home on the expressway, so I went to the Alpine Dam while taking the lower road.

2018/2/11

To Oku-Ibi in the snow. The reason it's not your usual car is because you were rear-ended by a rental car with normal tires in Nagoya city on a snowy day.

Next is the Yokoyama Dam.

Kuse Dam.

Nishidaira Dam.

2018/2/15

I came to listen to a lecture by dam enthusiast Mr. Miyajima on the occasion of the release of dam cards and dam curry at Iruka Pond. The photo is from the lecture, but we also visited Iruka Pond. After the lecture, we visited Teishoji Temple, which is associated with Sadayakko, and had dinner together at Nagoya Station.

2018/2/24

While attending a Dammeister's meeting at the Dam Association, I visited the Tokyo Metropolitan Waterworks History Museum, which has been a great help to me.

2018/3/10

Visited the Nagara River estuary weir while participating in the "Learning about Weather Disaster Prevention Classroom for Parents and Children" at Aqua Plaza Naru.

2018/3/24

I went to Sayama Pond in Osaka to listen to a lecture related to the 150th anniversary of the Meiji era. It was also an iron trip with my child, taking the Kintetsu and Nankai trains.

2018/4/29

I went to Oku-Ibi during Golden Week. First, we visited the Nishidaira Dam.

Kuse Dam.

Yokoyama Dam.

Tokuyama Dam was abandoned due to lack of time and went to Kamidake Dam.

2018/5/4

In addition, I went to Gunma with my children during Golden Week. First, they visited the surge tanks and Makabe Regulating Pond at the Saku Power Plant.

It has been a very long time since I have been to Aimata Dam.

First time at Akasan Adjustment Pond.

Komori Dam, waiting for the rain to stop.

Fujiwara Dam, where there were many monkeys. I also had a brief conversation with a member of the public who saw the "I'm touring dams" sticker.

Sudagai Dam. It is still hard to find a view point.

Yagisawa Dam, which does not discharge water.

Naramata Dam in the rain.

It was raining in Minakami, but once we got out to Uonuma, it miraculously cleared up and the Mikuni River dam released snowmelt.

In the evening, we went to the Yamba Dam under construction.

2018/5/5

The next day, we started at the Yamba Dam in the morning.

And Nakanojo Dam.

Shima River Dam. It was impressive to see the unusually large number of couples and young people visiting to see the "Shima Blue.

On the other hand, Shinaki Dam was very quiet. But the atmosphere is also good.

Otsu Dam. The rolling gate is wonderful.

2018/5/26

It was the day of the 10th Gathering with Dam Lovers, and we visited Inagawa Dam on the way.

So, the main Miso River Dam.

On the way back, he visited the Narai Dam.

2018/6/3

This was my third visit to the Machejo Dam in total. The flow rate was relatively high this year, and it was nice to see the beautiful stream crest.

2018/7/8

The day before, I attended the funeral of a fellow dam enthusiast, Yugao-san, who passed away, and the next day I decided to visit the dams that the deceased would have visited. Most of them were earth dams, but the first was the Takenuma Dam.

And Narusawa Dam is the nearest dam to Yugao-san's home.

Oshio Dam.

Niu Dam.

Finally, the concrete dam, Onida Dam.

Dohira River Dam.

Aizawa River intake dam.

The Ichinoyaya River intake dam, which could not be reached due to road closures.

Yashiki River intake dam.

Entering Nagano, the Kosaka Dam.

And the last Yukawa Dam of the day.

2018/7/14

I went to Gifu to see the 《Memorial of the 150th Anniversary of the Meiji Era and the 150th Anniversary of Momosuke Fukuzawa's Birth》 "From Yukichi to Momosuke - Trajectory of Japanese Modernization" at the Gifu Prefectural Museum and the "Dam Exhibition" at the Minokamo Citizen Museum.

When I saw the dam exhibition, I couldn't help but visit the Maruyama Dam. However, I realized that my SD card was not in the camera from the beginning of the day, and I was disappointed in my visit.

And Obuchi Dam after a long time.

2018/7/15

Saburi Pond during the car inspection.

Maeyama Dam after a long time.

Not a dam, but the Mihama adjustment pond.

2018/8/18

I went to Gunma for the third time this year. The photo is in Saitama, the birthplace of Momosuke Fukuzawa.

And here is Maze Dam, also in Saitama.

This is the second Aimata Dam this year.

In the evening, we went on a night tour of the Yamba Dam.

2018/8/19

Naturally, the second day was also at Yamba Dam.

Then, after peach picking, we went to the White Sand Dam.

The Notan Dam. I was really impressed here.

2018/8/26

Amagase Dam while at the Railway Museum in Kyoto.

2018/10/27

Visited the Nagara River estuary weir at the 11th Gathering with Dam Lovers. I will write more details in a later article.

2018/11/10

I was invited to participate in the "Aichi Plateau and Okumikawa Okkuru Campaign: Tour of Dams," but for some reason I ended up attending the event. The first dam we visited was the Yahagi Dam. (I will write about the tour in a later article.)

The second unit was the Kuroda Dam. It had been a long time since I had visited there, and I was surprised to see that the number of visitors had increased unlike in the past.

The final stop is the Habu Dam.

2018/12/5

A one-day trip to Tokyo for a meeting. Murayama Shimo Dam while enjoying a one-man railway trip for rehabilitation of a cervical disc herniation.

And then there is the Murayama Kamigami Dam.

2018 Dam Tour Summary

In 2018, 65 dams were visited. (Including weirs; dams visited over two separate days are counted as one dam per day.) I will continue to visit dams in 2019.

Please note that due to the mourning period, we respectfully refrain from offering New Year's greetings. Every year we publish processed photos of dams associated with the Chinese zodiac, but we will skip this season because we did not visit a dam associated with a boar and because we are in mourning.

I wish you all a happy new year. We look forward to working with you and Kamima in the coming year.
