January 1, 2003... After the first sunrise, we suddenly drove our car toward Nagano. Originally, we were going to enjoy a snow drive! So, I just kept driving north, but when I saw the word "dam," I turned the steering wheel in that direction on my own. Since the dam was not the purpose of the drive at first, I did not have any equipment to cover the dam, so I had no choice but to use a J-SH51 and a disposable camera. The images are therefore very rough and dirty, but please forgive me.

Now, the Minowa Dam is the first dam on our "Sudden New Year's Day Dam Tour. We had traveled north on Route 153, but passed the Kosibu Dam and Miwa Dam on the way, and since we were not allowed to return in time, we regret to say that we will not be showing them to the public. To get to the Minowa Dam, take National Route 153 into Minowa Town, enter the bypass area, and use Prefectural Route 19.

It ended up neither snowing nor accumulating that day, and we were forced to drive on a dry road surface. However, as you can see, the area around the abatement works is covered with snow and partially frozen water.

The dam lake itself was not frozen. Since it is in the southern part of Nagano, it does not seem to be so cold.

Other facilities/observations

As expected in winter, there are few visitors. I love this desolate atmosphere and get the illusion that the dam is my own.
