An audit corridor is a passageway used to check for damage inside the dam embankment. Normally, it is off-limits to all but authorized personnel. If permission is obtained, visitors may be allowed to take a special tour. However, if the dam is designated as a "dam open to the community," it may be used as a tour course, but in most cases it is a separate passage from the original audit corridor.

It is mainly for conducting audits (inspections) after the dam is completed, and even after it is put into operation, it is provided for measuring the amount of leakage, pumping pressure, deformation, and seismic activity of the embankment, and for gate operations.

The audit corridor is like a tunnel, and the interior is cool even in mid-summer, but can be rather cold. In addition, when water is leaking inside the dike, it is slippery, so care should be taken when visiting.

Recently, the precast construction method is sometimes used for audit corridors to shorten the construction period and improve safety.
