After visiting Ishii Dam, we headed to Tachigahata Dam. However, I was very impressed that the interesting properties were scattered around before we reached the embankment, and the embankment was not the only thing to see. The stone-lined dam was clearly distinct from the concrete dams we had seen before. This is a Hyogo Prefecture-operated flood control dam that also serves the purpose of recreation and has a gallery inside the embankment. I had done a little preliminary study of the dam beforehand, and was very curious to see a dam with "recreation" as its purpose. This is a perforated dam for flood control only, which does not store water. The orifice gate is actually visible in this photo. The orifice is located below the perforated gate. A huge dam located on the border between Niigata and Fukushima prefectures that served as the model for the movie "Whiteout" starring Yuji Oda. Okutadami Dam's total water storage capacity is the second largest in Japan, following Tokuyama Dam. It is also the fifth tallest gravity concrete dam in Japan in terms of both height and effective water storage capacity. It is a very dignified dam. The Gifu prefectural dam is located in Shirotori, Gujo City, Gifu Prefecture, a mecca for ski resorts. When I arrived at the embankment, alone and disheartened, to my surprise, water was being discharged from the orifice! There is a parking lot and a park, but I am not sure if it is still possible to take a proper tour. Even if you go there, there is a high possibility that you will not be able to see it. 1056-Takahashidani Dam

This is a power generation dam owned by Chubu Electric Power Company that stands quietly. The dam looks very old. According to the dam handbook, it was completed in 1919. In Japanese calendar, it was completed in 1919. It is the year of the Treaty of Versailles. It is not suitable for a date, but it looks like it could be used for fishing. This is the first dam in Hyogo Prefecture on this site. We stopped by during our trip to Kobe and Arima Onsen. It was a hot day, but we were unusually blessed with clear blue skies. Around the dam, there are many spots where you can enjoy outdoor activities such as tennis, fishing, camping, and barbecue. This is a multi-purpose dam under the jurisdiction of the Japan Water Agency, completed in 1992, with parks and other recreational facilities. Perhaps because it was as cold as winter, there were no visitors in spite of various improvements. I heard that black bass can be caught in the dam lake. I would like to bring a lure. A new Gifu prefectural dam completed in 2005. This Nakanokata Dam can be seen when you go north from the Kasagi Dam. At the time of the interview, water was leaking from the embankment. Despite the small size of the dam, the facilities are quite extensive. Of course, there are many things to see and do. National Route 17 runs along the side of the dam lake, which was also called Mikuni Kaido in the old days, and it is said that Kenshin Uesugi also passed through here. 0602-Sudagai Dam

The Sudagai Dam is a power generation dam located at the junction of the Naramata Dam and the Yagisawa Dam. When the dam was completed in the Showa period (1926-1989), it was named Naramata Dam, but the upstream Naramata Dam changed only the letters in consideration of the existing Naramata Dam. But in the end, the Naramata Dam, which was the senior dam, changed its name to the Sudagai Dam because it sounded the same and was confusing. Fujiwara Dam is the first high dam in the Okutone Dam complex. Although it has the use of power generation, it is not a stand-alone dam, but a pumped storage power generation dam with the upper dam, Tamahara Dam, and Fujiwara Dam is the lower dam. It was lucky for us to see the discharge because there are days when the water volume is low and the dam does not discharge water. 1407-Hiyoshi Dam

The Hiyoshi Dam was awarded the Architectural Institute of Japan Prize in 1999. The design is well integrated with the surrounding area and is very well maintained, more so than any other dam I have seen. It is no wonder that architect Norihiko Dan designed this dam. There is so much to see and do at this dam. However, I was very disappointed that I visited on a day when the museum was closed.
