Tochigi Prefecture Dam

0557-Naka Iwadamu

This is the next dam we visited after Imaichi Dam (0579-Imaichi Dam), but we could not find it right away, even though we had checked in advance that it was along the R121 (Kinu Bypass). It was not easy to find it, although I had previously checked that it was located along the R121 (Kinu Bypass). However, it is located far from the national highway and a short walk is required. / Gravity arch dam / 26.3m
Tochigi Prefecture Dam

0579-Imaichi Dam/Imaichi Dam

Imaichi Dam is owned by the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) and serves as a lower reservoir for pure pumped-storage power generation between it and the Kuriyama Dam (0578-Kuriyama Dam), which serves as the upper reservoir. The embankment gives a slender impression, and has an air of a dam that one would not expect from a dam dedicated to power generation. The atmosphere is quiet. No one is around, and no one comes. The only sound is the sound of water. This atmosphere is not bad. / Gravity concrete dam / 75.5m

Yunishigawa Dam construction site tour (2010/10/02)

I learned from the Dam Web Ring that the Japan Dam Association was going to hold a tour of the Yunishigawa Dam construction project, and after much deliberation, I went all the way there. I was surprised to learn that the development of science has shed a ray of hope on dam construction....

Mie/Shiga Dam Tour (Inabenike Dam - Eigenji Dam), October 2003

Some parts of this itinerary lost a lot of time (or "this time"...?). (Or is it "this time"?) After the Nakasato Dam, we decided to have lunch. After the Nakasato Dam, we decided to have lunch, so we headed north on Route 365, looking for a suitable restaurant, but we could not find one that suited our taste, and we found ourselves in Sekigahara. It was a mistake to go north here.

July 2003 Kurobe Dam Tour (Kurobe Dam - Uchimura Dam)

This time, since the Kurobe Dam is the main attraction, we had to move around it, and it was quite a difficult plan. Also, we did not actually visit the TEPCO Museum. This itinerary is only a plan and may differ from the actual schedule. There are many places to see in Nagano, and there are many dams that we did not visit. We can plan many variations of the itinerary, depending on whether we mainly visit dams or other sightseeing spots.

January 2003: Sudden New Year's Day dam tour in Nagano (Minowa Dam - Azusa River 3 dams)

This time we were going to tour a dam after seeing the first sunrise and then go for a ride on a snow-covered road! But before we knew it, we were on our way to a dam tour, so it was a completely unplanned visit. So, it was a very difficult trip because we did not have enough fuel and the route was not efficient. That being said, I myself really like this kind of unplanned trip.

November 2002 Okuhida Dam Tour (Iwaya Dam - Takane No. 1 Dam)

There are so many dams in the Takayama area. In addition, you may discover dams that you did not know existed even though you researched them beforehand, such as the Nishimura Dam and the Kugano Dam. This area may be very nice to visit in autumn or winter. The area around Iwaya Dam in particular is a great place to enjoy the autumn leaves, and the dam in winter is also a great place to visit, as the area gets a lot of snow in winter. After playing at the ski resort, it might be a good idea to visit the dam.

Sep. 2002: 2nd day of dam tour (Tedorigawa Dam - Kutouryu Dam)

This is a dam tour on the return trip from Kanazawa. This time, the itinerary completely ignores the time for breaks and interviews. I don't remember it taking me more than 2 hours and 40 minutes from Tedorigawa Dam to Butsubara Dam, so please use it only as a reference. But still, there were many dams we missed on this day...

2002.09 Dam tour day 1 (Mimogi Dam - Sakai River Dam - Tori Dam)

The so-called "Shogawa Dam Group" is full of dams that are worth seeing, but many of them do not allow access to the tops of the dams, making the coverage extremely difficult. In addition, the roads to the dams off the national highway are narrow, making it difficult just to get to them. In particular, the prefectural road to the Ooshirakawa Dam is often blocked by falling rocks, and in the fall of 2003, there was an accident in which a person was left behind by a falling rock (no fatalities or injuries were reported), so please be careful when visiting.
Fukuoka Prefecture Dam

2443-Narufuchi Dam

Narubuchi Dam is a multi-purpose dam operated by Fukuoka Prefecture for the purpose of flood control and water supply. It was completed relatively recently in 2001, and its fairy-tale-like design is a major feature of the dam. The construction of the Narubuchi Dam was planned to prevent the frequent flooding of the Tadara River in the vicinity of Fukuoka City, as well as to meet the growing population in the area, including Fukuoka City, and the resulting tight demand for water. / Gravity concrete dam / 67.4m
Fukui Prefecture Dam

0940-Ishitoshiro Dam

Ishitashira Dam is a dedicated power generation dam for the J-Power Development Project and is one of the few gravity arch dams in Japan. There is a bridge downstream, from where you can see the dam directly in front of you. The mossy appearance of the dam gives it a nice flavor. The atmosphere is very nice. The sun was shining after the rain that day, but it made me forget the heat. / Gravity arch dam / 32m
Fukui Prefecture Dam

0943-Yambara Dam

The Yamahara Dam is a dedicated power generation dam owned by J-Power Development, and hydroelectric power is generated at the Yugami Power Station downstream. Most of the embankment is a natural overflow emergency flood discharge. If the water were discharged from here, you would be able to feel the beauty of the place. The curve at the tip of the flood discharge is nice! / Gravity Concrete Dam / 23m
Shizuoka Prefecture Dam

1172-Higashi Fuji Dam

Higashi-Fuji Dam is located near Fuji Safari Park, and we actually stopped by after visiting the Safari Park. First of all, the double wire mesh fence prevents visitors from approaching the embankment. Unlike most dams, the entire perimeter of the dam lake is covered by the embankment, which is an asphalt-facing fill dam, an unusual feature of this dam. / Asphalt-facing fill dam / 22m
Dam in Gifu Prefecture

1126-Kawaura Dam/Kaore Dam

In many ways, I'm sorry if I got your hopes up! The Kawaura Dam is located upstream of the Kami-Osu Dam. The dam lake formed by the Kawaura Surabu Dam and this dam together is the upper regulating reservoir (upper pond), and the dam lake formed by the Kami-Osu Dam is the lower regulating reservoir (lower pond), and pumped storage power is generated between them. The effective drop-off is said to be as high as 486 meters.

Season for Familiarization with Forests and Lakes 2009 - Maruyama Dam

The 2009 event was held at Yokoyama Dam and Maruyama Dam. At the Maruyama Dam, visitors could not only tour the inside of the embankment, but also go up to the "Gate Pier" at the top of the embankment from the elevator on the first floor, and enjoy a panoramic view from there. Unfortunately, the weather was unfavorable on the day of the event, but due to the rain that had fallen the day before, it was a miraculous event to be able to see the powerful discharge of water from the dam.

Season for Familiarization with Forests and Lakes 2009 - Yokoyama Dam

The "Season for Familiarization with Forests and Lakes" refers to the period (from July 21 to 31 every year) during which the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, the Forestry Agency, and the Japan Water Agency began to promote awareness of dams, dam lakes, and water sources. In 2009, however, dam enthusiasts from all over the country gathered for the event in particular. There is no reason not to go to this one. This article reports on a tour inside the dike of Yokoyama Dam.
Dam in Okinawa Prefecture

2905-Kinjo Dam

The embankment is made of Ryukyu limestone, a material unique to Okinawa. It is the very wall of Shurijo Castle. It is said that the design of the river was inspired by the nearby Shuri Castle. The river is unusually narrow. The river is unusually narrow, so it has often been plagued by floods when it rains heavily. The river flows through the center of Naha City and Kokusai-dori Street, so you can see how important this dam is. / Gravity concrete dam / 19m
Dam in Okinawa Prefecture

3147-Kinmu Dam (former name: Okkubi Dam)

The 100 million head dam is to be constructed 100 m downstream of the existing Kanabu Dam (non-dam/levee height 12.8 m). There was no sight of the embankment at all. Also, what I failed to capture was that I was heading toward Naha City, but I didn't know that Kinmu Dam was on the left side, and I was only staring at the right side of the bus, so I could only capture this sign.... / Trapezoidal CSG / 39m
