Shizuoka Prefecture Dam

1163-Akiba Dam

The power generation dam on the Tenryu River, which has a suspension bridge downstream and can be viewed directly from the bridge. As for the reading of this dam, some people involved in power supply development read it as "Akiha," while others pronounce it muddled as "Akiba," so which is true.... In the Japan Dam Association's dam handbook, it is "Akiha. Well, let's leave it as "Akiha". / Gravity concrete dam / 89m
Shizuoka Prefecture Dam

1171-Misakubo Dam

Abandoned concession stands, dilapidated gates, falling rocks seen everywhere.... The dam is full of danger. The toilets are also in a state of neglect. This desolate atmosphere is a nice touch (heart)! Lonely and abandoned dam! / Rockfill / 105.0m

Sakuma Dam (at the time of construction)

The Sakuma Dam at the time of its construction, which can be seen in Project X more than the Kurobe Dam. In this feature page, we have received special permission from the manager of the website "Cloth and Wood Workshop "Garakuta"" run by a Shizuoka resident, and have included some valuable photos from the Sakuma Dam construction period. Please note that I have not read the Sakuma Dam Construction Journal or other materials, so there may be many errors in the explanatory text. Please understand that there may be many errors.
Off-line meeting/event report

Off-line meeting at Sakuma Dam (January 25, 2004)

The final turnout was over 20 people! And there was even a TV interview.... It was the first off-line meeting I had ever attended in my life, so I was half anxious and half hopeful, but it turned out to be a very valuable experience and a very memorable one.
Shizuoka Prefecture Dam

1160-Sakuma Dam

Without this dam, we can't talk about Kurobe Dam! It is a very famous dam. At the time of its construction, it boasted the highest embankment height and the largest amount of electricity generated in Japan. The design of the water intake also has a retro atmosphere. The Sakuma Dam was completed in three years, instead of 10 years, using second-hand large construction equipment imported from the United States. This is also said to be the first of its kind in Japan. / Gravity concrete dam / 155.5m
Dam in Toyama Prefecture

0824-Obara Dam/Obara Dam

From the Gokayama IC on the Tokai-Hokuriku Expressway, drive east on Route 156. There is also a PR exhibition hall nearby, but unfortunately we didn't have enough time to cover it.... / Gravity Concrete / 52m
Dam in Toyama Prefecture

0861-Akao Dam

Off-limits dam located next to "Kamidaira" Roadside Station, northward from Sakai River Dam back to Route 156. / Gravity concrete / 29.2m
Dam in Toyama Prefecture

0870-Sakaigawa Dam / Toyama Prefecture

After passing through the tunnel, there was a dam. The dam is quite spectacular, as it is suddenly visible after passing through the tunnel. Since it is a relatively new dam, the surrounding area is well maintained, making it a great place for a drive. / Gravity concrete dam / 115m
Dam in Toyama Prefecture

0853-Touri Dam

A dam with a sunken village at the bottom of a lake with an unusual orange-colored catwalk. I was glad to have met this dam at the end of my first day of dam coverage during my trip to Kanazawa. / Arch dam / 101m
Dam in Toyama Prefecture

0848-Kurobe Dam

Combining the wisdom of Japanese civil engineering and construction. The pinnacle of Japanese dams. It is a very major dam that needs no further explanation. It is also commonly known as the "Kuroyon Dam," but its official name is the "Kurobe Dam. Everyone in Japan must have heard of it, even if only by name. / Arch dam / 186m
Dam in Ishikawa Prefecture

0920-Tedorigawa Dam

One of Japan's leading rockfill dams with excellent facilities. For this report, we arrived from Kanazawa via Route 157. The area around the dam is rich in tourist attractions, such as the Hakusan Super Ring Road, so the dam is also a tourist attraction and has a drive-in element. / Rockfill dam / 153m
Fukui Prefecture Dam

0942-Kuzuryu Dam / Fukui Prefecture

Kuzuryu Dam is one of the most famous rock-fill dams in Japan, so it is probably a major dam for people living in the Chubu and Hokuriku regions. If you are coming from Aichi or Gifu, simply take the Tokai-Hokuriku Expressway from the Shirotori IC to the Aburasaka IC on the Aburasaka Pass Road (Chubu Jukan Expressway), and then drive along Route 158. / Rockfill dam / 128.0m
Fukui Prefecture Dam

0944-eagle-dam

This is a rare gravity arch dam that combines an arch type and a gravity type, and serves as the lower regulating reservoir for pumped storage power generation with the Kuzuryu Dam. It is a dam with a solid appearance. / Gravity arch / 45.0m
Fukui Prefecture Dam

0941-Butsuhara Dam/Hotokubara Dam

Located along Route 158, it is very easy to find, but it is a small dam, so you may pass by it if you are driving in a daze. / Gravity Concrete / 48.6m
Kanagawa Prefecture Dam

0699-Doshi Dam / Kanagawa Prefecture

The design of the parapet, the moss stuck to the embankment, the water that does not decay even after crossing the equator.... Located on the border between Kanagawa and Yamanashi Prefectures, the dam is easy to find because a prefectural road runs along the top of the dam. 3 roller gates are the main feature of the dam, and although it is small, the design of the parapet tells of the good old days. / Gravity concrete dam / 32.8m
Kanagawa Prefecture Dam

0697-sagami dam

This dam is located on Lake Sagami, one of the most popular leisure spots in the Kanto area. The roads around the dam were crowded with people. However, the area around the embankment was extremely deserted and even had a desolate atmosphere. The only people around the embankment were us and some boys who were fishing. / Gravity Concrete Dam / 58.4m
Kanagawa Prefecture Dam

3243-Miyagase sub-dam (Ishigoya dam)

Located on the Miyagase Dam site, it is a natural place to visit if you visit the Miyagase Dam. It is not just a sub-dam. It is a perfect dam that serves as a reverse regulating reservoir for a power plant, maintains the water level for the water supply, reduces the force of water discharge from the Miyagase Dam, and even generates electricity. It is not a sub-dam that should be kicked out of existence. It is a dam that works superbly. / Gravity concrete dam / 34.5m

Kanagawa Prefecture Dam

0696-Numamoto Dam

This is a phantom dam that sinks when the water level of Lake Tsukui, dammed by the Shiroyama Dam, rises. It is almost invisible because it is covered with grass and trees, but I could see that it is actually submerged. The height of the embankment is supposed to be 25.5 meters, but it does not seem high at all. The top of the embankment is supposed to be 126m long, but you don't feel its length. / 25.5m / Gravity Concrete
