Since we arrived near dusk on the heels of a day trip to Kyoto, the shooting conditions were quite poor. To make matters worse, there is a facility called "Info Gallery" where you can see the inside of the levee, but unfortunately we could not visit it because it was closed on a holiday. It was long past closing time anyway...

The access method was supposed to be from Arashiyama, Kyoto via Prefectural Road No. 50, but we took a wrong turn and had to go the long way around via Prefectural Road No. 25.... And what a bad road Prefectural Road 50 was in the vicinity of Arashiyama! Well, we knew it was a bad road, so we can't complain.

It is a dam with so much to see. It is a shame that we visited on a day when the dam was closed. I would like to visit the dam again at a later date. I knew from the official website of Hiyoshi Dam that the inside of the dike could be visited, but I regret that I did not check the website until the day it was closed....

The Hiyoshi Dam was awarded the Architectural Institute of Japan Prize in 1999. The design is well integrated with the surrounding area and is very well maintained, more so than any other dam I have seen. It is no wonder that architect Norihiko Dan designed the dam.

I heard that Hiyoshi Dam is also called "warship dam." I see, the shape around the gate looks like a warship. However, I did not take a picture of that part, so I cannot show it to you.... I can only say that I am really sorry.

The dam is also available as a postage stamp, so if you like dams, you'll definitely want to get your hands on one.
