Stone masonry is one of the construction methods mainly used for rockfill dams and other slopes, in which larger stones (500 to 1,000 mm in diameter) are laid down, and then smaller stones are placed between them. This method is very fine and has no unevenness, making the construction visually beautiful. It also serves to prevent erosion and weathering caused by wind, rain, and water from the dam lake.

It is sometimes used not only in rock-fill dams, but also in the rock sections of earth dams.
