Date of interview: 5/1/2005
Location: Erihara, Isobe-cho, Shima City, Mie Prefecture
View of the monument and embankment from the left bank
I had seen it before on my way to Parque España and had been curious about it, but finally got to visit.
View of the embankment on the lake side of the dam from the left bank
Amano-Iwato, where Amaterasu is said to have retreated to, is located further upstream from this dam.
Right now, the weather is so bad that I think Amaterasu must have retreated to Ama-no-Iwato....
Downstream view of the levee from the left bank
It is an earth dam, but it looks quite large for what it is.
View of the Incline from the top
The incline is located on a peninsula-like area. I think this kind of shape is rare.
View of flood discharge
The flood discharge is also quite steep. It is also of a scale that makes it hard to believe that this is an earth dam.
Looking downstream
It is a very simple structure. There was a turtle in here.
View of the levee from downstream
The embankment height is 29.6 meters, but the view from here still leads one to believe that it is much higher.
View of flood discharge
The conduit is also quite large. And it is a simple shape with natural overflow.
