The Takayama Dam is a gravity arch dam, which is rare in that it is both a gravity and arch dam. The embankment is quite thick, giving it an impressive sense of solidity. The words "manly" and "solid and sturdy" seem to fit the dam. Incidentally, this is not "Takayama" in Gifu Prefecture. The name of the dam is said to have come from the name of a dormant village, "Takayama-mura.

There is a management office on the high ground on the right bank. It seems that it is possible to reach this high ground by car, but I did not go there. I regret it now.... There are stairs, so those who are strong enough can go on foot from the top of the mountain.

There was some work being done on the dam lake. I smelled an incident, but I was probably mistaken.

Incline for patrol boats

Although hidden by trees, an incline has been installed on the right bank. There is a gondola-like structure on top, but it was designed in a rather cute way.

These are the remains of the crane piers used during construction. They still remain neatly in place.

The "water and greenery must be cherished" appeal is essential even in places like this.

Although it is still a slightly chilly spring, the water level in the dam lake was quite high.

Lakeside Village Tsuigase

Lakeside Village Tsuigase

Well, this time we came not only to see the dam, but actually to see the ume (plum) grove in Tsukigase, which is located upstream. The Tsukigase plum grove is quite famous, and there were quite a few tourists there that day. The place is called "Kohan-no-sato Tsukiagase," which is a facility that serves as a roadside station. Here, I had "Ume-no-hana Udon" (udon noodles with plum blossoms on top), which was quite tasty with a slight sourness.

Tsukigase Plum Grove is located far upstream from the Takayama Dam, but this is also a proper dammed lake. A fountain has been installed, but it is not known if it functions as a surface aeration system.

Plum blossoms were in full bloom, but the season was nearing its end and there were a fair number of scattered blossoms. It is a great spot for photography. However, thisA sad tale for TsukigaseThere is a I found out later that it is kind of sad.

The following is an addition on 07/27/2010.

On 2/24/2010, I stopped by the Takayama Dam on my way back from visiting the ume plum blossoms in Tsukigase with my family. Come to think of it, we had not been up on that high ground. After all, it is nice to see the dam embankment from above.

The surface of the lake is calm. At Tsukigase Plum Grove downstream, the plum blossoms are in full bloom again this year, and there are many tourists. The Takayama Dam, however, is a very quiet place.

It is a magnificent management office. I also got a dam card. You can get it by ringing the intercom.

Hmm?

Hmm?

As an aside, I found an interesting signboard in Tsukigase Plum Grove. It is a sign that indicates the fee for recreational fishing....

Dam (small fish) ...

Dam (small fish) ...

It makes me feel somewhat strange when it is written "dam (small fish). Well, it means the amount of money for fishing small fish in a dam lake....
