View of the dam lake from Miyagase lakeside park

Miyagase Dam has been developed on a really large scale and offers a wide range of tourist facilities.
The photo on the left shows the area around the Keyaki Plaza in the Miyagase Lakeside Park, which is located away from the embankment. In Miyagase Lakeside Park, there is not only a park but also a shopping area where visitors can have a meal. There is also a souvenir shop where you can buy local specialties. By the way, I had soba noodles with wild vegetables at a soba noodle shop and bought some local sake at a souvenir shop.
I have heard various stories of opposition to the dam at the time of its construction and difficulties in negotiating compensation, but in the end I thought that the dam contributed sufficiently to the revitalization of the region.
The fir tree on the left side of the photo and the large fountain on the far right are said to be illuminated during the Christmas season, and from that one shot, it seems that this is "the only dam in Japan that attracts many couples.

Miyagase Dam Water and Energy Museum parking lot same-day use authorization form

After having a meal at Miyagase lakeside park, we finally moved to the bank.
There is a gate in front of the parking lot closest to the embankment and a security guard. Then you will be given a piece of paper and a pencil like the one in the photo, which you fill out. This is the first time I have ever seen such a strong security system. By the way, the official website says that reservations are required to visit the museum, but we were able to enter without a reservation.

View of the embankment (lake side) from the right bank

The weather is not very good... It is lightly overcast. This is the kind of weather we usually have on the day of dam coverage. Maybe some of you may have noticed, but there are very few photos on this site that show blue sky....

View of the top edge from the right bank

The other side of the river is far away! And the embankment length is wide! I have never seen a dam like this before.

Deer living in Miyagase Dam

As I was about to board the incline for the tour, I spotted a deer! It was the first time for me to see deer at the dam. According to the man in charge of the incline, there are also monkeys. For some reason, the man referred to humans as monkeys, but I didn't understand what he meant...

View just below the levee from the incline window

Finally, it is time to board the Incline. It was the first time for me to ride the incline. It was quite steep and a little scary, but it was a good experience for me. It is an experience that is not possible in an ordinary dam.

View of the levee (downstream side) from the incline

We descended the embankment as if we were licking it. It is still a huge embankment.

incline

This is the incline we boarded this time. It has an unusual shape because it ascends and descends a steep incline.

irrigation duct

Aperture.phi3000 mm, 20 mm thick, 55 m flow rate3/s. The discharge pipe was also decorated with a circle of discharge pipes.

View of the levee from downstream

This angle is still the best. It is truly a masterpiece. Miyagase Dam is said to discharge water for sightseeing, but it is not as frequently as Kurobe Dam, so it is better to check the website in advance.

Oosawa Falls

brinkmate (inevitable checkmate) (shogi)sub-dam(On the way to the (Ishikoya Dam), we found a waterfall.
Still, it is not a very beautiful picture... This is the moment when I want to improve my photography skills. But I wonder how many years I have been saying this....

View of the levee from the bridge downstream

It was quite a distance from the dike, but it was still huge.

Long-lasting footings

I am sure that the strength, intelligence (?), and luck of the hour (?) to climb up this mountain are all there. and luck of the hour (?). I was very thankful for the elevator.

inside the audit corridor

I wouldn't really call it an audit corridor, since it is a passageway to the elevator leading to the top end of the building.
Panels detailing the Miyagase Dam are displayed in the passageway.

View downstream from the top

We took the elevator to the top of the tower, which is 156 meters high.

View downstream from the top

The Miyakase sub-dam (Ishikoya Dam) can be seen in the background.

selective intake

The water intake is also very large.

On a certain site (explosion) ...

I remember seeing it on a major dam website (explosion) and took this picture. I don't know what this is either...
2005/2/14 note: This is called a "conduit gate reserve gate door body" (Thanx! Ash Ace).

View of the Miyagase Dam Water and Energy Pavilion from the top

I thought it was an exhibition hall that also served as a control center, but the actual control center is located in the back of the building (left bank (of a river)(see above).

View of the dam lake from the observation tower

I personally didn't like the view from the observation tower because the embankment is so large that I didn't feel like I was climbing a high place. Well, the angle is a little higher, but....

View of the right bank from the center of the top edge

After all, it is a big place. We spent a lot of time just at Miyagase Dam, even though we had about five more dams to cover after this....

View of the gate operation room from the top edge

The gate operation room, which looks like a Rubik's cube (I wonder if people these days know what it is...), is also a very large object.

View of the Miyagase Dam Water and Energy Pavilion

It is not only big. The exhibition hall is also magnificent. There is also a restaurant inside where you can have a meal. It was a hot and humid summer day, so I bought some ice cream or soft-serve ice cream to take home.

The main exhibit is a panel display. I did not have much time, so I did not take a good look at them, but I remember that there were no models of any kind. However, there might have been some....
