Miyagi Prefecture Seeks Nation's First Naming Rights for a Dam

Miyagi Prefecture is seeking a naming rights contract for the first dam in Japan.

The six dams being sought are, of course, Miyagi Prefecture-owned dams: Okura Dam (0292-Okura Dam), Nanakita Dam (0302-Nanakita Dam), Tarumizu Dam (0298-Tarumizu Dam), Minamikawa Dam (0307-Minamikawa Dam), Miyatoko Dam (0311-Miyatoko Dam), and Sonooseki Dam (3006-Sonooseki Dam). /(0311-Miyatoko Dam), and Sono no Seki Dam (3006-Sono no Seki Dam).

Okura, Nanakita, and Tarumizu dams include naming rights for parks around the dam lakes, while Minamikawa and Miyatoko dams include only the embankment, and Sosonoseki dam includes the recreation plaza.

The contract is expected to run for at least five years, from FY2011 to FY2015, and the contract amount is expected to be at least $300,000. The proceeds are said to be used to pay for the maintenance and management of the dam.

Miyagi Prefecture is expected to accept applications from companies, but of course enthusiasts, whether individuals or groups, should also be allowed.
