[Flash Report] Japan Dam Awards 2016 Results Announced!

The Japan Dam Awards 2016 were held on Sunday, December 18 at Tokyo Culture Culture, which moved from Odaiba to Shibuya, where the awards for discharge, low water management, event, flood control, and dam grand prix were announced.

In addition, a new award, the Light-Up Award, was established this year and was voted for in advance via the Internet from outside the venue.

Let's start with the nominations for each award.

■Discharge Award

  1. Tsugaru Dam (Aomori Prefecture)
    An inspection discharge from Crest was made.
  2. Kami Shiiba Dam (Miyazaki Prefecture)
    Shiiba Village suddenly announced two days prior to the date of the event that they would be conducting a crest release by inspection.
  3. Misogawa Dam (Tochigi Prefecture)
    The release was held as an event to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the start of management.
  4. Futase Dam (Saitama Prefecture)
    Four crest discharges were conducted as inspection discharges.
  5. Takane No. 2 Dam (Gifu Prefecture)

  6. Nukabira Dam (Hokkaido)

  7. Asase-Ishikawa Dam (Aomori Prefecture)

■Low Water Management Award

  1. 8 dams upstream of Tone River (Gunma and Saitama Prefectures)

  2. Hayamoura Dam (Kochi Prefecture)
    Even secondary water withdrawal restrictions were put in place.
  3. Hatori Dam (Fukushima Prefecture)

■Event Awards

  1. Amagase Dam (Kyoto)
    An industry-university cooperative event between volunteers from the Kinki Regional Development Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the Manga Department of Kyoto Seika University. A social experiment in tourism resource creation. Projection mapping was used as a social experiment to make the dam a tourism resource.
  2. Kanogawa Dam (Ehime Prefecture)
    Tunnel flood discharge penetration tour and flood discharge tunnel walking event.
  3. Maruyama Dam (Gifu Prefecture)
    Event held in the summer to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Maruyama Dam. Includes lake tours, dam tours, and adult social tours.
  4. Lotus Dam (Mie Prefecture)
    Held a tour to experience the discharge of the lotus dam to commemorate its 25th anniversary.

Flood Control Award

  1. Nakasuji River Dam (Kochi Prefecture)
    Gateless Dam. Includes information on its activities in response to Typhoon No. 16, which struck on September 20, 2016.
  2. Futsunai River Dam (Hokkaido, Japan)
    Gateless Dam. Includes information on the fight against Typhoon No. 10, which struck at the end of August, 2016.
  3. Kanayama Dam (Hokkaido)

  4. Asamushi Dam (Aomori Prefecture)

■Results announced

Light-up Award (Which dam shines most impressively at night?) : The most impressive dam at night!Tsukiyama Dam (Yamagata Prefecture)
The lighting was excellent, matching the design of the levee.

Discharge Award (The dam that fought the most impressive battle against heavy rain!): Kami Shiiba Dam (Miyazaki Pref.)
Despite the sudden notice, it was wonderful, as the dam rarely sees a discharge.

Low Water Management Award (The dam with the most impressive drought endurance!)Hatori Dam (Fukushima Prefecture)

It was wonderful to see the dam fighting to protect the town of Minami Furano.

2016 Dam Awards (The Dam Most Remembered by People This Year!) :.Kanayama Dam (Hokkaido)

Hokkaido was plagued by several typhoons this year, causing significant damage, but the dams that were active seemed to have made a deep impression for that reason.
