Celebration! Yubari Shuparo Dam test discharge!

The Yubari Shuparo Dam, as its name might suggest, is a multi-purpose dam under construction in Yubari, Hokkaido.

Also, from November 13 to 15, the top of the dam and on the bridge downstream of the dam will be open to the public from 10:00 to 15:00. (On November 15, only the top of the dam will be open. (On the 15th, only the top of the dam will be open to the public, but the opening may be cancelled due to weather or other conditions.)

The discharge from the crest gate is a rare release that can only be seen during a flood event with a probability of occurring once every 100 years, so if you are nearby or have the chance to go, please go and see it with your own eyes. (Hokkaido is expected to be stormy, windy, and snowy, so please make sure you are prepared for the cold.)

The freshly poured concrete is white and very beautiful. The people who were involved in the construction must have been deeply moved when they saw the water flowing through the conduit.

The Yubari Schupparo Dam, which took over from the Oyubari Dam, will continue to serve as a guardian deity protecting the northern lands for many years to come.
